1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?
We've been playing shows, sorting out artwork, sorting out tours of UK and Europe, sorting out merch... loads of sorting shit out. And writing new stuff when we get a minute..
2.You have a new album coming out in March, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
It's heavy rock really. It goes fast, it goes slow, but it always goes heavy. It shares some things in common with the first album, like the range of different types of heavy, and the sense of humour, but overall this album is a bit more refined, maybe. If the first album was a hammer, then this one is a hammer with sharper edges, made out of purer steel. Plus it was recorded by esteemed metal producer Jaime Gomez Arellano so it sounds more expensive.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?
Theft, prostitution, planetary destruction, sacrificial virgins, death, betrayal, mobile homes. The usual.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Bad Guys'?
There is no meaning. There was no inspiration.
5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
We used to play a lot of parties and guerilla gigs, just setting up in festivals uninvited and stuff like that. That was fun. We played on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square. The launch gig for the first album was great, so many good friends, great bands, loads of crowd surfing, can't wait for the upcoming launch gig too. We recently played the 13th anniversary of The Crobar, the only metal bar in Soho, and that was great fun. Dave slashed some Swedish guy's head open with his aluminium neck guitar (by accident) and the guy seemed pretty pleased about it, glad to have a battle scar. Mental metal Swede.
6.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?
Yeah we're touring UK and Europe with an Eastern European tour pencilled in for later in the year. We'd love to play in the US as well!
7.The new album is coming out on Riot Season Records, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
It's a great label based in the midlands and we're in good company there. Bands like Mainliner, Acid Mothers Temple, Shit n Shine and Hey colossus have all put out loads of records on there.
8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of underground music?
People seem to like us if they get what we're doing. We're about having a good time so if people like to have a good time listening to rock n metal, then they can get down with us.
9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
If I could predict the future I'd be down at the racetrack, but my guess is we will continue to play heavy rock music.
10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Hard to cite influences really when everything influences you in some way. Harvey Milk and Motorhead both seem to come up a lot though. What I'm listening to is easier to answer. I mostly listen to weird stuff, or more extreme stuff. I really loved The Body album from last year. And stuff on PAN records. The Rashad Becker album that came out a little while back was my favourite new thing in a long time. I've also been listening to John Fahey a lot. The other guys listen to a lot more rock and metal than me I think.
11.What are some of your non musical interests?
PJ and I both work in film so we like making the videos for the band as well. Tamas likes to work on his old gold Mercedes. Dave likes cooking spicy food. Pj reads science fiction. PJ, Dave and Tamas are all into motorbikes as well. I like alternative comics. I'm currently reading all the Metabarons and Technopriests related stuff by Jodorowsky. It's mental.
