Corrosion Of Conformity/IX/Candlelight Records/2014 CD Review

  Corrosion  Of  Conformity  are  a  band  from  North  Carolina  that  has  been  around  for  a  long  time  as  well  as  being  featured  before  in  this  zine  and   with  this  album  they  take  the  crossover  thrash  punk  sounds  of  the  early  material  and  mix  it  in  with  the  southern  rock  and  sludge  metal  styling's  of  later  recordings  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "IX"  which  will  be  released  by  Candlelight  Records.

  A  very  distorted  and  heavy  rock  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  the  music  gets  more  dark  and  metal  sounding  along  with  some  doom  metal  style  guitar  leads  and  riffs  which  leads  up  to  some  melodic  vocals  kicking  in  and  the  music  also  has  a  70's  and  retro  rock  feeling  to  it  but  done  in  a  more  modern  day  manner.

  On  the  other  tracks  the  band  returns  back  to  its  southern  metal  sound  of  the  90's  but  with  a  more  dark,  doomy  and  sludgy  sound  than  what  was  presented  back  them  as  well  as  staying  away  from  any  mainstream  sounds  of  the  material  that  was  released  back  them  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  After  awhile  the band  also  starts  bringing  in  some  thrash  and  crossover  songs  which  show  the  punk  influence  that  was  a  huge  part  of  the  bands  musical  style  in  the  80's  along  with  some  aggressive  hardcore  style  screams  while  also  using  some  melodic  vocals  on  the  faster  tracks  as  well  and  they  also  mix  in  the  punk  sound  with  their  slower  and  doomier  material  as  well  and  after  awhile  they  also  start  adding  acoustic  guitars  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  the  main  focus  is  still  on  a  heavier  sound.

  Corrosion  Of  Conformity combine  all  of  the  musical  styles  that  they  have  played  over  the  years  together  to  create  one  of  the  heaviest  albums  they  have  released  in  years  as  well  as  adding  in  a  more  modern  day  feeling  that  would  appeal  to  fans  of  sludge  metal,  doom  and  stoner  rock,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  society,  politics  and  people.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Corrosion  Of  Conformity  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Brand  New  Sleep"  "The  Nectar"  "Trucker"  and  "Who  You need  To  Blame".  8  out  of  10.
